Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses a concentration of platelets prepared from a patient’s own blood and may be considered as part of the treatment plan for selected foot and ankle conditions. Dr. Carlos A. Rojas, DPM provides PRP evaluation and treatment in Miami for appropriate patients, with recommendations based on the diagnosis, severity of the condition, activity level and previous treatment
What Is PRP Therapy?
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is prepared from a small sample of the patient’s own blood. The blood is processed to concentrate platelets within the plasma, and the resulting preparation is administered to the targeted treatment area when clinically appropriate. Platelets contain proteins and growth factors involved in the body’s normal tissue-repair processes.
Foot & Ankle Conditions That May Be Evaluated for PRP
- Selected tendon injuries
- Achilles tendon conditions
- Plantar fascia conditions
- Certain sports-related foot and ankle injuries
- Selected chronic soft-tissue conditions
Is PRP Therapy Right for You?
PRP is not appropriate for every foot or ankle condition. A proper diagnosis is important before determining whether PRP should be considered. Dr. Rojas evaluates the type and duration of the injury, previous treatments, activity demands and individual patient factors before recommending a treatment plan.
PRP for Active and Sports-Related Injuries
For selected active patients and athletes, PRP may be considered as part of a broader treatment strategy for certain tendon and soft-tissue conditions. The goal is to develop an individualized plan based on the specific injury and the patient’s return-to-activity goals.
Dr. Carlos A. Rojas, DPM provides PRP evaluations for selected foot and ankle conditions at his Miami office. Patients interested in PRP can schedule an evaluation to determine whether this treatment option is appropriate for their particular condition.
